Best of 2021 - A Retrospective

In the past year, this blog has been a refuge, a chore, a way to mark time in crazy times, an exercise in pushing my limits in the kitchen, and a boredom buster. I debated renewing the site when it came due, but I still had cookbooks to work through and would love to get the gumption to put more of my own recipes up for consumption.

As I make May 31’s smokey salsa fuego for the 47 millionth time, I was thinking to myself, “how has this blog changed my cooking?”. I’ve always had tried and true favorites and we are ardent Saturday meal planners (everything is mapped out for the week on a menu on the fridge), but this past year has pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I’ve learned that the 70s and 80s were a time that really no one should repeat from a culinary perspective and that Ina can do no wrong. Hopefully, I’ve inspired some of you to branch out and try some new recipes - either from your cookbook shelf, or from mine! Here are the blog recipes that I keep coming back to this year:

Salsa Fuego [We seriously make this every week at the moment]

Queso [This will be the only reason I will watch the Super Bowl]

Halibut with Roasted Red Pepper Aioli [If halibut wasn’t so pricey, I’d have made this every week]

Peach and Prosciutto Salad [This was made every…single…week of summer!]

Philly French Dip Sandwiches [Making these tomorrow]

Zuni Roast Chicken [This was as much of a hit at Thanksgiving as I predicted!]

Deep Dish Apple Pie [Another Thanksgiving winner]

Cider Pork Chops with Horseradish and Dill [Simple and flavorful - what’s not to love?]

Chili [Always a winter repeat in our house - I even sent some to my brother/sister-in-law for post baby freezer meals]

I’ve battled tested these over and over this year - try them today!
